Chartridge Combined School

Chartridge Combined School

School Council

At Chartridge, we are  have a school council where children and teachers are able to discuss how the school is run and any possible improvements that may be made.

At their first meeting, this year's Council agreed that their role is:

To make school a better place.

To improve aspects of behaviour.

So that everybody's opinion can be listened to.

To try and change anything that is wrong.

To be a channel of communication between the class and the staff.

Our School Council is made up of one boy and one girl from each class, and they meet with the headteacher each half term to talk about issues here at Chartridge. Ideas are brought to the school council by the representatives from each class and these are discussed with the whole committee and staff.

These discussions have proved to be very worthwhile and the children have certainly appreciated the opportunity to improve aspects of the school making it a more enjoyable place for everyone.

As a result of the school council discussions,  improvements at the school have included:

  • New playground play equipment
  • New playground climbing apparatus
  • Lockers for the older children
  • New benches outside
  • New football goals
  • Agreed rules for behaviour outside
  • Ideas for our Fit 4 Life week, Green Day and Arts week
  • Ideas for charity fundraising

The school council has also been involved in interviewing new staff, showing visitors around the school and talking with County advisors about their learning at Chartridge.

Our school council makes a valuable contribution to the daily life at the school and we are grateful to all the children who represent their class on the committee for their energy, dedication and conscientious attitude.
